ALSO Showcases Integrated Violence Prevention and Survivor Support at The Network Conference

On May 28, 2026, the Alliance of Local Service Organizations (ALSO) presented at The Network Conference, highlighting the critical connections between domestic violence and community violence and the importance of addressing both through coordinated, survivor-centered strategies.

The session featured a moderated discussion with ALSO staff whose work reflects the organization’s integrated approach to safety, healing, and community well-being. Panelists included Safe Homes Program Specialist Shosh Pojawa, Safe Homes Staff Attorney Myasar Ihmud, and Safe Streets Resilience Case Manager Supervisor LaToya Baines.

Drawing from their diverse experiences in legal advocacy, survivor services, and community violence prevention and intervention, the panel explored how violence in homes and neighborhoods is often deeply interconnected. Attendees from across the country—including professionals working in both the domestic violence and community violence fields—filled the room to learn more about ALSO’s innovative direct service model. The discussion highlighted how ALSO addresses the root causes of violence, reduces barriers to accessing support, and promotes healing while recognizing and building upon the resilience already present within communities.

A central theme of the session was that creating safe homes and safe streets are not separate efforts—violence in one often echoes into the other. Addressing these issues together requires confronting the underlying causes of violence and abuse, reducing barriers to services, and responding to generational trauma while uplifting the strengths, leadership, and resilience that exist within individuals, families, and communities.

The session encouraged participants to reflect on how the intersection of domestic violence and community violence shows up in their own work and to explore collaborative approaches that advance safety, healing, and thriving communities for all.
