Building on over 25 years of local experience, ALSO strengthens anti-violence efforts nationally through its role as a trusted Technical Assistance and Training Provider for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) since 2007.

ALSO serves OVW grantees and subgrantees nationwide by providing expertise, resources, individualized consultation, peer-to-peer connections, and training to help develop effective programs that enhance victim safety and promote offender accountability. Through these services, ALSO extends its impact far beyond Chicago, strengthening the capacity of government systems to address violence effectively and the ability of victim service providers to provide responsive services — including those from historically underserved communities.

  • STAAR Project

    The ALSO STOP Technical Assistance to Administrators Resource (STAAR) Project is the funded Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Comprehensive Training and Technical Assistance Provider for the VAWA-authorized STOP Formula Grants Program. ALSO STAAR Team works in collaboration with OVW to provide an array of no-cost resources, tools, and guidance to help STOP Grant Administrators and their subrecipients address domestic violence, dating Violence, sexual assault, and stalking in their state or territory. 

  • Underserved TA Project

    The Underserved Technical Assistance Project (UTAP) is funded through a cooperative grant agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). A project of the ALSO, UTAP serves as the comprehensive technical assistance provider for the Grants for Outreach and Services to Underserved Populations Program (Underserved Program). Our approach to technical assistance is rooted in our collective lived-experiences, expertise, and knowledge, including what we hear from partners and grantees themselves doing the boots-on-the-ground work every day, advocating and helping survivors heal and feel safe.
