Safe Homes, Safe Streets

Beginning as a pass-through organization in 1998, ALSO has grown into a broad and dynamic alliance of violence prevention programs. Today, we work locally and nationally to end violence, through cross-disciplinary and cross-programmatic work. ALSO believes that the elimination of violence is a collective responsibility — no one is free from the threat or act of violence until we are all free from the threat or act of violence.

Our Values

  • Remaining Responsive:

It’s vital that we create tailored, community-based initiatives in response to existing needs.

  • Meet People Where
They Are:

We place deep and intentional emphasis on survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and community strengths-based thinking.

  • Building Trust and Positive Relationships:

We recognize the importance of enabling positive interrelationships and communication to thrive within the communities that we serve.

  • Learning As a Continuous Process:

We understand that learning is not a finite process, and actively seek opportunities to address knowledge gaps within the agency and within our external communities.

  • Inclusivity at the Core:

We are committed to providing services with accessibility for culturally-, linguistically-specific groups, and to providing services to those most at risk of violence.

Testimonial From Our Executive Director

“I believe that everyone deserves to be safe at home and in the community. I also believe that our homes and streets are tied together; what happens in our homes – good or bad – affects our communities; community conditions affect our homes too. When our homes are safer, our communities are safer and vice versa. And when both our homes and streets are safer for everyone, especially those who are living in risk of violence, then we can look up and ask ourselves, what next?”

Executive Director
