Recognizing and Responding to Stalking

April 4, 2019 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Stalking is a prevalent, dangerous and often misunderstood crime. As one of the four crime areas covered by the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), communities working to address the crime of stalking must explore the dynamics of stalking, focus on the highly contextual nature of the crime, analyze stalking’s co-occurrence with domestic and sexual violence, as well as develop strategies to plan for victim safety and offender accountability. As technologies continue to expand, stalking offenders are becoming more creative in their strategies to monitor and harass victims. Likewise, our investigation and prosecution strategies must also expand. This webinar aims to assist STOP administrators in ensuring that STOP grantees are substantively addressing stalking both within the context of sexual and domestic violence, and a separate crime area. The webinar will also discusses common technologies that are being used/misused by offenders to engage in stalking.
