Domestic Violence and the UCCJEA

The Legal Resource Center on Violence Against Women (LRC), in partnership with the National Center for State Courts, will be holding a free webinar on basic interstate custody issues for court personnel and their local partners
This webinar will provide court personnel with an overview of the various laws that govern interstate custody cases and how to best respond to individuals who have relocated from one state to another and are seeking court orders regarding custody, visitation, or protection. Deborah Goelman and Sarah Whitesell, LRC Co-Executive Directors, and Project Coordinator, Amie Lewis, will serve as faculty. The training is designed for those who wish to understand the basic framework of how these laws fit together, with a focus on the UCCJEA. Case scenarios will be used to demonstrate how court personnel can answer questions accurately when individuals wish to file for custody or to modify court orders where more than one state may be involved. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.
