At ALSO, we bridge the gaps left by traditional domestic violence and community anti-violence services. We meet survivors where they are—with care, dignity, and an unwavering commitment to their well-being.
A Community-Centered Approach to Domestic Violence
On Chicago’s Northwest Side, many community members face the compounded impact of intimate partner violence and community violence. These experiences are rarely isolated—survivors often carry deep, layered trauma stemming from childhood exposure to violence, long histories of interpersonal harm, and ongoing instability in unsafe environments.
At ALSO, we take a community-centered approach to domestic violence services, differentiating ourselves from mainstream organizations offering traditional domestic violence services and programs singularly focused on addressing the impact of one form of violence. This leaves victims experiencing multiple forms of violence isolated and without support that is responsive to their unique lived realities.
We recognize the complexity of these realities, and that is why our approach is rooted in the specific needs and strengths of the communities we serve.
Our Safe Homes Domestic Violence Program offers holistic, trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and community/culturally responsive services designed to support survivors’ long-term safety, healing, and stability.
Our direct services include:
- Crisis intervention, advocacy, and emotional support
- Individualized safety planning
- Support Groups
- Access to mental health services
- Economic assistance
- Systems navigation
- Legal Support
We proudly serve the following Chicago Northwest Side neighborhoods: Humboldt Park, Albany Park, Avondale, Belmont Cragin, Hermosa, Irving Park, Logan Square, Portage Park, and West Town.
