CeaseFire Hermosa and Humboldt Park

ALSO implements the CeaseFire Campaign in Hermosa and Humboldt Park.

Through the CeaseFire Campaign, ALSO works with community-based organizations to collaboratively change community norms to end violence - particularly shootings.  ALSO hires and trains outreach workers and violence interrupters to intervene in conflicts, or potential conflicts, and promote alternatives to violence through ongoing prevention efforts and participant case management. CeaseFire depends heavily on a strong public education campaign to instill in people the message that shootings and violence are not acceptable. Finally, ALSO works to strengthen the community so we have the capacity to reduce violence and mobilize our neighbors -- from businesses to faith leaders, residents and others -- so we all work in concert to reverse the epidemic of violence that has been with us for too long.

ALSO's CeaseFire program was evaluated during a larger evaluation testing the CeaseFire model. Through the evaluation of our site, along with a few others, the CeaseFire model has been scientifically proven through an external evaluation conducted by Northwestern University’s Institute for Policy Research funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ).
